Boudoir is a form of intimate portraiture that aims to capture your beauty and elegance, and to help build confidence and feel like the sexy goddess you are.

To have a successful session, there are a few key things to keep in mind:

Prepare Your Vision - Think about how you want your shoot to look

Having an idea for the types of shots and poses you want will go a long way in determining the final results of your session. Check out Pinterest and look for boudoir photos that speak to you. Find poses and lighting styles that you like and save them to refer to during your shoot. If there's a particular makeup style or clothing that you like, save those too! And think about accessories you may want to bring. If you're doing this shoot for a partner, maybe you can bring one of their shirts to wear. Or if it's a bridal boudoir, you can bring your garter and veil. Get creative!

Prepare Your Body - it takes time to look and feel your best!

To get the most from your boudoir session, it's best to plan a few weeks in advance. First step is to get hydrated. Drink lots of water. This will help with the coloration and elasticity of your skin, which is crucial for the camera.

Think about what kind of touchups you need to do. If you color your hair, you should get it touched up a couple weeks before your session. If you're waxing for the shoot, make sure to do it at least 2 days before, and if you're shaving, do it the night before. This is most important for the panty line, but applies to legs and armpits too if you want to go hair free. Nothing wrong with letting it grow though if that's your style!

Avoid salty foods and alcohol, and even though you may want to, DON'T get a tan. It's much better to have smooth pale skin than blotchy looking tanned skin.

Oh, and drink water!

Day of the Shoot - Come prepared!

The day of the shoot is here! You're nervous, but excited - that's normal. It's not every day you take pictures like these, but rest easy. A boudoir session is just like any other photo shoot. After a few minutes warming up, you'll feel comfortable and confident. And with the right music, you'll really get in the zone!

On the morning of the shoot, shower and dry your hair. Moisturize your body and avoid sparkly products and self tanner. Keep on drinking water.

When you get dressed, make sure to wear loose fitting clothing. You don't want bra straps or tight clothing creating lines in your skin. Next, pack a bag. You should bring a couple of outfits, shoe options, jewelry, and accessories. If you're doing your own makeup, either do it before you head over, or bring everything you need to the shoot, as well as extra supplies for touchups.

Finally, you're ready. Double check you have everything and head over to your shoot! Assuming you've followed along, you should be set for an amazing boudoir session. Oh, and drink water. Did we mention that?
